“My Brilliant Friend,” by beloved author Elena Ferrante, is about a pair of girls growing up in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Naples, Italy in the 1950s. To cope with the hardships they face, the two seek refuge in their friendship, and it’s not always perfect, but the way it’s rendered is lovely. Through their relationship, we also learn about a country on the verge of change. The book is currently a series on HBO, so for those of us who’ve seen it, we can discuss that some, too.
The meeting is planned for outside, so please plan appropriately, including masks, chairs, water, sunblock, etc. We’ll be wearing masks and spreading out to accommodate social distancing.
In the event of rain in the forecast, Joe will e-mail the zoom link to all RSVP’s the day before. Please RSVP and/or send questions to Joe Foner at joefoner1@gmail.com.
