Please join the City Beautification Committee on April 1st for the annual Forster Street Cleanup. We will have teams of volunteers cleaning up litter, pulling weeds, and planting new, native seeds and young shrubs to fill Forster with green all along the corridor! Tools, gloves, and bags will be there for you but we welcome extra gear if you don’t want to be without your favorite gardening trowel. Breakfast & lunch will also be provided as a thank you for your help in making Harrisburg a better place to live, work and play!

Join HYP’s City Beautification committee for their monthly meeting! Volunteer committee members help plan and coordinate the city beautification efforts for HYP, including all major HYP clean up events, beautification related workshops and educational opportunities, and much more. The City Beautification committee is a wonderful way to become more involved in the organization while learning about Harrisburg.

Harrisburg is the place to be for lunch every month with the Harrisburg Young Professional’s Lunch Bunch. All lunch bunch attendees will gather to casually meet and socialize. Lunch kicks off at 11:30AM and locations will vary from month to month.
Our next Lunch Bunch will be on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Arooga’s Downtown (201 N 2nd St). Please join us from 11:30AM to 1:00PM.
September 16th is also National Park(ing) Day, an annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. Geoffrey Knight from the City of Harrisburg will be hosting a temporary Park called a “parklet” at the corner of 2nd and Locust Street – Be sure to check it out, and maybe even eat your lunch there.
By any account, Mira Lloyd Dock and Gifford Pinchot were extraordinary people, stars in the Pennsylvania pantheon of environmental leaders.
To learn more about their life work and how their leadership and legacies can be useful today, you are invited to attend a free public program, Keeping the Faith: Sustaining the Legacies of Mira Lloyd Dock and Gifford Pinchot in the 21st Century.
The program will be held at The Civic Club of Harrisburg, 612 N. Front Street, on Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2016, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Two films produced by WITF, Inc., Mira Lloyd: A Beautiful Crusade and Gifford Pinchot’s Conservation Legacy will be presented, followed by a discussion on practical ways these lessons can help play a part in a sustainable future for Harrisburg and the Capital Region. The program will begin with light refreshments and time to speak with and pick up information from local program partner exhibitors.

All community members are invited to join the HYP Beautification committee at 9:00am on April 23 for the annual HYP Forster Street Clean Up. 18 years ago, HYP’s founders decided to take on their first City Beautification initiative by completely redesigning the Forster Street median. At the time, the median was a large section of concrete painted green, with no plantings, trees, or aesthetics. As one of the city’s main corridors, Forster Street needed a beautification effort, and HYP completed the first-ever Forster Street Clean Up. Since that day, HYP has remained committed to maintaining the median and restoring it each Spring.
We will collect litter, pull weeds, lay fresh mulch and plant shrubs to get the iconic city street median ready for Spring. Attendees are invited to bring gardening tools to help with the event such as brooms, shovels, rakes and leaf blowers. Lunch will be provided by HYP to thank attendees for helping in this effort to make Harrisburg a better place to live, work and play.
