In 1998, HYP planted the first trees in the Forster Street median, and we have cared for it ever since. Come help us clean up litter, pull weeds, and beautify this well-traveled gateway to Harrisburg. Food, drink, gloves, and safety gear will be provided. Tools will be provided, but bringing your own will leave more for others. First 50 RSVPs receive a free event T-shirt.

Join HYP’s City Beautification committee for their monthly meeting! Volunteer committee members help plan and coordinate the city beautification efforts for HYP, including all major HYP clean up events, beautification related workshops and educational opportunities, and much more. The City Beautification committee is a wonderful way to become more involved in the organization while learning about Harrisburg.

Please join HYP’s City Beautification Committee for a tour of 4 Urban Community Gardens!
On an easy walk through Midtown to Olde Uptown and back, you will meet garden leaders and learn about different kinds of Urban Gardens in Harrisburg, how they work, and how you can get involved. After the tour, we will share lunch at the Millworks or Broad Street Market to discuss what you’ve learned and your ideas for how to help these projects succeed. We will gather at 10 am at the parking lot at 3rd and Harris Streets*, and then visit these gardens managed by Green Urban Initiative(GUI) and Reforest Harrisburg Initiative (RHI). (Please see map) Total distance is under 2 miles.
HYP City Beautification will partner with Harristown Development Corporation and its International House program to clean up and beautify a rest area on City Island. We hope to remove weeds which have taken over the space and replace them with sweet-smelling flowers and then mulch, provided by our partners, to prevent further weed growth. Volunteers will also be sanding and repainting benches in the area and discuss ways to bring more visitors to the area.
A simple breakfast will be provided at the start of the day with water and snack foods available throughout the event. Hand tools and other garden gear will be provided, too. A group photo with HYP and International House volunteers will wrap up the day.
Represent HYP in the Great Harrisburg Litter Cleanup!
On Earth Day, April 22, hundreds of your neighbors will be on the streets with bags and gloves making Harrisburg a cleaner place to live, work, and play. In past years, volunteers for this Clean and Green Harrisburg event removed over 600 tires, 3,000 pounds of e-waste, and 16 tons of trash from our city in a single day! With your help, this community event can be an even greater success.
To join the HYP team, please RSVP at beautification@hyp.org so we know the size of our crew. In late March we will register our group with Clean and Green and get a work location. We will post and share the place to meet up as soon as we know it.
