HARRISBURG'S FUTURE STARTS HERE. JOIN HYP!

Harrisburg River Rescue and HYP would like to invite you to learn about volunteer emergency services and celebrate being a part of the Harrisburg community. A mural unveiling will showcase local artist Tyler Minnich’s take on Harrisburg through the eyes of local youth. Join us for food, music, art and fun with neighbors and friends.

Make way for HYP Book Club’s Book and Movie Event – “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children!” The book/movie are about a teenage boy who discovers clues to a mystery that spans alternate realities and times, and uncovers a secret refuge known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.  As he finds out about them and their ‘weird’ abilities, he begins to discover his own identity.

First we’ll meet at the Harrisburg (East) Mall Regal/Great Escape at the showtime closest to noon to watch the film.

Then we’ll roll over to the Midtown Scholar at 3:00 (or thereabouts) to discuss the book and the movie. There will be more information on movie times closer to the movie; check the Regal site (https://www.regmovies.com/Movies) and the event page on facebook for details. Everyone who RSVPs will get updates. Please contact Joe Foner at joefoner1@gmail.com to RSVP or for questions.  Hope to see you there, and happy reading!

Join the HYP Arts & International Committee as we wander the city for the 28th Annual Harrisburg Gallery Walk. The Gallery Walk features 24 art venues across the city. HYP’s tour will begin at 1pm at the Art Association of Harrisburg (AAH), with an exclusive gallery tour and discussion with AAH Executive Director and Gallery Walk founder, Carrie Wissler Thomas, in the front second floor gallery. Following AAH, we will walk to as many art venues as possible, concluding at the Millworks at 5pm for drinks.

Time for some great thought-provoking cinema in August, with this month’s film, “Captain Fantastic.” The film stars Viggo Mortensen and Frank Langella, and was a big hit at Sundance and Cannes. It’s about a father who raises his kids off the grid in the forest, and is forced to deal with the consequences when they have to integrate into the ‘real world.’ How will it go down? Join us and find out!

We’ll be meeting in the lobby about 7, as movies are typically around 7:30 – be sure to look for screen times starting June 2 on the midtown cinema website: www.midtowncinema.com.  If the movie ends up being scheduled at a much different time, look for updates on the facebook event page.  Please contact Joe Foner at  joefoner1@gmail.com for questions, as well as RSVPs.
