Oscar season is starting to ramp up, so you know what that means – time for some high-quality film at the Midtown Cinema! HYP Movie Night is back, with a movie that’s sure to be in the Oscar conversation, “Loving.”  It’s based on the real-life story of Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple living in Virginia who are sentenced to prison for getting married in 1958. Their case eventually made it to the Supreme Court and resulted in a landmark civil rights decision prohibiting interracial marriage. We’ll be meeting in the lobby about 7, as movies are typically around 7:30 – be sure to look for screen times on the midtown cinema website: www.midtowncinema.com.  If the movie ends up being scheduled at a much different time, look for updates on the Facebook event page.  To RSVP or for questions, please contact Joe Foner at  joefoner1@gmail.com

Join us for a discussion of December’s book, “Children of the new world” by Alexander Weinstein.  We’ll look towards the new year with this set of stories that imagines a near-future replete with possibilities, and characters who are coming to grips with technology and its effects on them and humanity, for better or for worse. We’ll meet at the Midtown Scholar at 2:00 in the upstairs lounge; if it’s not available, then downstairs at a table. Please contact Joe Foner at joefoner1@gmail.com to RSVP or for questions.  Hope to see you there, and happy reading!

Join us at Little Amps for the first event in our Curious Coffee Connoisseur Series!

Attendees will receive a coffee mug and snacks, and be lead through the coffee roasting and preparation process by Little Amps expert, Greg Loring-Albright. In addition to tasting the coffee that’s prepared, event-goers will be able to take home some of their very own Little Amps beans! After revving up at Little Amps, head over to Cork & Fork for a Saturday brunch!

This event is an exclusive partnership between Little Amps and HYP and is only available for HYP members.

Only 12 spots are available so register today!
