Looking to develop speaking and leadership skills? Pass in a job interview? Advance in your career? Join the HYP Toastmasters group at its next meeting!
Toastmasters Meetings are the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month at the HACC Midtown 2 in Harrisburg. Email us for the room and meeting times.
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our membership is over 350,000 strong. These members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 15,900 clubs in 142 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.
How Does It Work?
A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere.
There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar, and parliamentary procedure.
Members learn communication skills by working in the Competent Leadership Manual, a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking. Members also practice their leadership skills by working in various roles during club meetings utilizing the Competent Leadership manual. Those who wish to deliver evaluated speeches compete in contests, and progress through the communication or leadership training programs can elect to become official members of Toastmasters International.
Membership dues are to be paid every 6 months, in April and October, with new members paying a one-time initiation fee.
To join, please fill out the application and bring it to the next meeting. At meetings, we are able to accept cash and checks.
