SUMMARY:HYP Book Club – “The Plot Against America”
DESCRIPTION:In honor of the recent passing of Philip Roth\, we’re reading one of his lesser-known works\, “The Plot Against America.” Imagine an America where famed aviator Charles Lindbergh becomes president and America stays out of WWII\, and a cordial “understanding” is negotiated with Nazi Germany. But Roth goes beyond typical dystopia in playing out the impact on his teenage self and his family in his trademark intensely autobiographical style. Although the book is a good companion piece for fans of Phillip K. Dick’s “The Man in the High Castle” and the lesser-known “Focus” by Arthur Miller\, it has some eerie parallels to the present. We meet in the back room (behind the children’s section) of the Midtown Scholar. Please RSVP and/or send questions to Joe Foner at joefoner1@gmail.com. See you there\, and happy reading!

SUMMARY:Italian Lake Music Series: Mark DeRose & the Dreadnought Brigade
DESCRIPTION:(RESCHEDULED) \nAlong with his band\, The Dreadnought Brigade\, DeRose’s music calls upon his love for rootsy blue-eyed soul and classic rock of the late 60s and 70s. The band brings high-energy performances of DeRose’s upbeat\, feel-good music to stages across the tri-state region. DeRose’s music is perfect for fans of Van Morrison\, Counting Crows\, and The Band. \nDeRose’s music is “thoughtful and provocative\, laden with metaphors of hope and celebration for life. It’s the stuff that makes feel good music feel so good”.- Patrick Kirchner\, The Fly Magazine. \n**These concerts are FREE and open to the community! So\, grab a lawn chair\, picnic blanket\, and snacks and join us for our rescheduled Italian Lake Music Series Opener. This concert is the 4th of 5 concerts this summer!** \nThis Event is sponsored by: \n \nThank you to our other series Sponsors: \nDauphin County\, Dixon University Center\, TheBURG Magazine\, Capital Blue Cross\, Na’Toria Marketing & Design\, and Midtown Cinema.
