SUMMARY:HYP Book Club Challenge Read - “Infinite Jest”
DESCRIPTION:Another HYP Book Club first: The Challenge Read! We pick a super-lengthy book with an interesting premise and take 6 months to read it. Then we meet at the end of the six months and talk not just about the book\, but the experience. The honor of being the first-ever challenge read goes to… \n“Infinite Jest\,” by the acclaimed (and sadly departed) author\, social observer/critic\, and generally enigmatic dude\, David Foster Wallace. Here’s something from the back cover to give you an idea – “Infinite Jest is the name of a movie said to be so entertaining that anyone who watches it loses all desire to do anything but watch it. People die happily\, viewing it in endless repetition.”At nearly 1100 pages\, it’s an epic tale about something as American as apple pie (it’s even in the Declaration of Independence) – the pursuit of happiness…as a by-way to a discussion about the human condition and our need for connection (or lack thereof?). \nWe start reading now\, and on July 22\, we’ll meet at 2:00 in the back room of the Midtown Scholar. Please contact Joe Foner at joefoner1@gmail.com to RSVP or for questions. \nAre you up for the challenge? \nPLEASE NOTE: this is in addition to our regular monthly read!!! \nGoodreads link

SUMMARY:Italian Lake Music Series: Run the Willow
DESCRIPTION:While spending their first 3 years crafting their recent debut\, Run the Willow has developed a unique blend of earthy instrumentation and angelic harmonies that hinge around a profound\, yet simple lyrics. Composed as a 6-piece\, the band’s singer-songwriter style songs carry the dynamic qualities of classical chamber music\, the textures and tones of indie rock\, the impactful lyrics of traditional folk\, and soulful melodies/harmonies delivered by Vince Bruinsma and Rebekah Foster. Their album\, ‘A Living Dichotomy’ ranges from full and powerful songs to careful and sudden arrangements dealing with a duality in most of us—a desire to settle and invest in a community versus satiating a wanderlust and desire to roam. \n**These concerts are FREE and open to the community! So\, grab a lawn chair\, picnic blanket\, and snacks and join us for our Italian Lake Music Series Opener. This concert is the 4th of 5 concerts this summer!** \nThis Event is sponsored by: \n  \n \nThank you to our other series Sponsors: \nEnders Insurance\, Dixon University Center\, TheBURG Magazine\, Capital Blue Cross\, Na’Toria Marketing & Design\, and Midtown Cinema.
