SUMMARY:HYP Book Club – “Heart of Darkness”
DESCRIPTION:On its surface\, “Heart of Darkness” is a tale about a river journey to hunt down the chief of an inner station of a trading company deep in the jungle. But the novella that inspired the movie “Apocalypse Now” is much deeper\, a foray into a meditation on the good and evil of mankind\, with characters who are clearly not one or the other. Join us to discuss Joseph Conrad’s classic story of morality that sits right alongside “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde\,” “The Picture of Dorian Gray\,” and “The Turn of the Screw.”   \nWe meet in the back room (behind the children’s section) of the Midtown Scholar. Please RSVP and/or send questions to Joe Foner at joefoner1@gmail.com.  See you there\, and happy reading!

SUMMARY:HYP Movie Night - “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”
DESCRIPTION:Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood was like the little engine that could – a small local production with no budget\, simple sets\, and a plain-spoken Presbyterian minister\, Fred Rogers\, as a star. But work it did\, because of Fred’s ever-present and compassionate way with children and well\, pretty much everybody. Whether you experienced the show as a kid or not\, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” is a look at this amazing phenomenon with humble roots\, and a chance to re-live it. We’ll be meeting in the lobby about 7:30\, as movies typically start between then and 8 – be sure to look for screen times on the midtown cinema website: www.midtowncinema.com.   \nIf the movie ends up being scheduled at a much different time\, look for updates on the Facebook event page.  RSVP and questions to Joe Foner at joefoner1@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Refresh Harrisburg Teaching Day
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed for weekly teaching sessions on July 3rd\, 10th\, 17th\, and 24th from 4:30-5:45 pm and the day-of-event on July 31st from 10am-1:30 pm.  No need to volunteer for each date as even just 1 day of assistance is appreciated.  HYP events are only as successful as the volunteers we have to help make them a success!  Also\, many employers allow for paid time off or approved time off for volunteer purposes in the community\, so please explore this if it will help allow you time to volunteer. \nIf you are interested in volunteering for any of the dates above\, email Outreach@hyp.org. \nWhat is Refresh Harrisburg? \nRefresh Harrisburg is the culminating event in which 4 teams of teen summer campers from The Salvation Army sell items at refreshment stands located in downtown Harrisburg to demonstrate their knowledge of entrepreneurship and charity. \nFor 5 weeks prior to the event\, the campers learned about starting their own business\, budgeting\, marketing\, and creating their own business plans to put their refreshment stands in motion. Come to visit each of the refreshment stands the day of the event to see their businesses in action and see their individual marketing strategies come to life.  You know you’ll be hungry and thirsty!!
