DESCRIPTION:Join Pine Street Presbyterian Church and Downtown Daily Bread for an evening of music\, wine\, hors d’œuvres\, and a tour of the Downtown Daily Bread (DDB) facility located next to the church.  \nDDB is a mission project of Pine Street Presbyterian Church\, a 501(c)(3) corporation\, and has been operating in Harrisburg for 36 years. Services provided by DDB include (but not limited to) daily lunch\, showers\, laundry\, mail delivery\, counseling\, and overnight shelter during winter months to the homeless in Harrisburg.  \nDDB is always looking for volunteer assistance with their operations\, and if you are interested in supporting DDB and its mission\, come enjoy free music (no entrance fee\, donations will be accepted however) and take the opportunity to tour the DDB facility\, meet staff members and discover how you can begin making a difference in the homeless population of Harrisburg! The concert will begin at 6:00 PM and DDB tours will begin at approximately 7:00 PM.  \nThis event will also take place of the HYP Outreach Committee’s monthly meeting\, who is helping to coordinate volunteer efforts with DDB. Want to help fulfill someone’s dream of having their own home? \nJoin the Outreach Committee for another work site day volunteering time with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area. No specific skills or construction expertise needed. Materials and guidance will be provided by Habitat for Humanity and they will match you with a job based on your skill set day of the event. Before attending the event\, a volunteer form\, waiver\, and online volunteer safety course need to be completed. \nVolunteers will meet at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 800 Paxton St. at 8:15 am and carpool to the work site for the day. DESCRIPTION:Refresh Harrisburg is the culminating event in which 4 teams of teen summer campers from The Salvation Army sell items at refreshment stands located in downtown Harrisburg (Click here for a map of the locations) to demonstrate their knowledge of entrepreneurship and charity.   \nFor 5 weeks prior to the event\, the campers learned about starting their own business\, budgeting\, marketing\, and creating their own business plans to put their refreshment stands in motion. Teams compete in various locations throughout the downtown Harrisburg area on who can sell the most refreshing beverage. Part of the proceeds go to charities chosen by the students. SUMMARY:Harrisburg Hoopla:  Competing for a Cause
DESCRIPTION:The Emerging Philanthropist Program (EPP)\, a partnership between Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) and The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) will be hosting its first-ever Harrisburg Hoopla! Harrisburg Hoopla is a just-for-fun track and field day for adults. Our goal is to unite the local community\, boost our economy\, and raise money for local nonprofit organizations through friendly track and field competitions. \n  \nHarrisburg Hoopla will be a full day event consisting of teams competing in fun activities such as bubble soccer\, tug-o-war\, relay races\, volleyball\, dizzy bat\, dodgeball\, and more! Each team will represent a local nonprofit organization of their choice and compete to donate a portion of the event’s proceeds to their favorite charity. \n  \nWe will celebrate the end of a great event with live music from two local bands. During the concert\, we will announce the Harrisburg Hoopla team winners and the amount of funds raised for our community. DESCRIPTION:Join HYP for the Second Wednesday Social at Bacco Pizzeria and Wine Bar in Downtown Harrisburg on Wednesday\, May 11\, 2016 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM.  HYP will be joining forces with Harrisburg’s own—Sara Bozich—to support “Bras Across the Bridge\,” in late August of 2016. \nBYOB for FYB is a series created by the Feel your Boobies Foundation to benefit “Bras Across the Bridge.” Guests are encouraged to bring in old bras for donation. The bras will be strung together and marched across the bridge in a chain held by corporate and individual fundraising teams and later stringed across the Walnut Street bridge in Harrisburg. \nFUN FACT:  Leigh Hurst\, Founder of Feel Your Boobies\, launched her campaign with HYP way back in 2004 (here’s a nice little time capsule for you).

SUMMARY:Junior Sports League
DESCRIPTION:Come out and play dodgeball\, wiffleball\, or other games with students ages K-8th grade. \nHYP Junior Sports Leagues offer after school opportunities for Harrisburg city kids once a week during the winter\, spring and fall seasons. We work with students through three different organizations: Boys’ and Girls’ Club\, YMCA at Camp Curtin\, and Sylvan Heights Science Charter school. Ages can range from kindergarten to 8th grade. \nWe split the groups into 2 based on age of the kids participating. Volunteers can have their choice each week of what group they work with (or if they have a preference for ages\, they can stay with the same age group week to week!) \nVolunteer opportunities are once a week for 1 to 2 hours. Volunteer days are Mondays\, March 7th to April 18th with the exception of March 28th. We meet from 5 to 6:30. \nAll volunteers are required to have their child abuse clearances.
