DESCRIPTION:Join us on February 15th for Harrisburg Young Professionals’ 25th Annual Meeting and Awards Night at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the year that was and the year that will be with a special message from this year’s president\, Olivia Edwards-Rindfuss and keynote speaker\, George Fernandez. \nAt eight years old\, George Fernandez emigrated from the Dominican Republic to Harrisburg\, Pennsylvania with his single mother\, a survivor of domestic violence who spoke no English. George had to quickly adapt to American language and culture to help his family navigate and survive this life-changing and future-shaping transition. At the age when most kids can live a carefree life\, George was the male leader in his family\, learning how to break through the societal barriers that made daily living a constant struggle. He had to translate and communicate for his family to advocate for their basic needs\, all while facing the climaxing challenges of a broken “system” where his family never qualified for social assistance programs. \nFortunately for George\, his family\, and those who continue to be impacted by his good work\, this was only the beginning of his story. Today\, George M. Fernandez is a highly accomplished and respected visionary and leader in the multicultural community. He is the President & CEO of Color & Culture which is an integrated family of brands and changemakers that provide culturally relevant\, human-centered strategies to solve ever-evolving challenges. DESCRIPTION:This Earth Day\, join HYP for our 23rd Forster Street Cleanup on April 22.  \nIn 1998\, HYP planted the first trees in the Forster Street median and we are happy to have this amazing event to clean up litter and beautify an entrance to our city. DESCRIPTION:HYP’s Outreach Committee is partnering up with Habitat For Humanity Greater Harrisburg on Saturday May 6th ! \nWe will be helping with painting and some trim work for a house duplex in Steelton (15 N 2nd Street\, Steelton). You do not need professional experience to help out. They will provide a quick safety and guidance orientation prior to starting. The group will need to meet at the location by 8:45am. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a leisurely hike through Detweiler Park\, to meet other HYP members and enjoy nature.  \nDuring the hike\, we will explore two of the Park’s loops: the David’s Field Loop and the Airstrip Loop. The David’s Field loop provides a beautiful panoramic and takes you through the park’s pine forest. The Airstrip loop is an easy loop around a field. In total\, we will be hiking about 3 miles. \nWe will meet at the parking lot at 6:00 pm and start the hike at 6:10 pm. \nAfterward\, join us for ice cream at 3B’s!  It’s right by the park entrance on Peters Mountain Road. \nContact sports@hyp.org with any questions.
