DESCRIPTION:Let’s go for a walk after work!  Come get some exercise\, socialize and enjoy nature.  Wildwood Lake draws an abundance of birds that are always fun to check out.  \nMeet in front of the visitor center building (southeast corner of the park) at 6 pm.  We will begin our walk promptly at 6:15 pm. The walk around the lake will be about 3 miles.  The terrain is a paved path\, mostly flat with minimal elevation change. DESCRIPTION:SIGN UP\nThe Emerging Philanthropist Program (EPP) will be hosting the 3rd Annual Harrisburg Hoopla on Saturday\, June 1\, 2019. Through an adult track and field day style competition\, our goal is to raise unrestricted funds for local nonprofit organizations and unite our community in support. \nHarrisburg Hoopla is a fundraising event where teams compete in 10-12 field day style activities. Each team competes for a local nonprofit organization of their choice in hopes to win a portion of event proceeds for that nonprofit. \nNote: Teams are not responsible for doing individual fundraising for this event. \nRegister your team for the best sports event of the year! \nKeep up-to-date on our Facebook page. \nRecap of the 2018 Harrisburg Hoopla:\nLast year’s event was an electrifying success\, with over 180 participants on 24 teams. SUMMARY:Appalachian Trail/White Rocks HIKE
DESCRIPTION:Let’s go for a hike!  This MODERATE hike will be about 6.5 miles long\, out and back style.  It will begin on the Appalachian Trail\, initially passing through several flat farm fields and then up into the woods with about 650 feet of elevation gain.  We will then turn onto the White Rocks trail which involves going through interesting large rock formations and optional rock scrambling on top of the ridge. \nCarpoolers: Meet at City Island in front of the parking garage at 9:30 am.  We will leave at 9:45 sharp. If not carpooling- Hike location: Meet in front of the Boiling Springs Iron Furnace located at 109 Bucher Hill Rd. Boiling Springs\, PA 17007 at 10:15.  You can park in the long parking lot at the southeast end of Children’s Lake. DESCRIPTION:Please join your fellow HYP members and volunteers from International House on the morning of July 13 for our annual Teamed-Up Cleanup on City Island! This will be our 4th year beautifying the area. Volunteers will be cleaning litter around the island and pulling weeds. We will meet at the north end of the island and disperse from there to cover different areas. \nWater\, gloves\, and tools will be provided\, but please bring your own if you have them. \nRSVP for the event by email beautification@hyp.org.

SUMMARY:HYP Book Club Challenge Read – “1Q84”
DESCRIPTION:Every so often\, we at the ol’ book club like to dig into something a little bit bigger than a monthly book. Okay\, a lot bigger. So we came up with the challenge read\, whereby we read a much longer work over the course of six months. Although we’ll be checking in from time-to-time at regular meetings\, it’s a separate undertaking. Note the July meeting date! Our next challenge read is “1Q84” by the venerated Japanese writer Haruki Murakami\, whom we’ve been individually meaning to read for some time. It’s about a young woman who begins to notice discrepancies in the world around her and an aspiring writer whose life begins to unravel after taking on an unusual project. Over the course of the novel\, their narratives intertwine and connect and we get to read all about it. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing by joining us Friday\, July 19 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm during 3rd in the Burg for Moon Madness. Challenge your fine motor skills and see how well you as a team member. Astronauts spend years training to head into space. See if you have the skills to join them on a mission. Though out the evening the Planetarium will be featuring “Apollo 11: Man’s First Step Onto The Moon”\, showing at 5:30 pm\, 6:00 pm\, 6:30 pm\, and 7:00 pm. \nRefreshment will be available. Admission is free for the event. However\, space in the Planetarium is limited and will be accommodated on a first come\, first served basis. \nThis event is presented in partnership with the State Museum of Pennsylvania.
