SUMMARY:HYP Toastmasters Spring Into Public Speaking
DESCRIPTION:HYP Toastmasters will provide a comprehensive seminar on public speaking for a small group of 15 HYP members who wish to develop stronger communication skills. This course will take place in a learn-by-doing styled class where members will receive instruction from public speaking professionals then implement what they’ve learned by practicing in front of the class. Throughout the course\, participants will learn about various styles of speech\, body language and how to project their confidence.  \nThe program culminates in a prepared speech to be given in front of their peers. In addition to working on prepared speeches\, participants will work on Table Topics™\, which will develop your ability to “speak-on-your-feet” when responding to a question or scenario. Once the coursework and speech are completed\, participants receive an internationally recognized certificate in the fundamentals of professional public speaking.  \nOur course is specifically designed to enhance skills centered around the career goals of participants\, these skills include speech organization\, tone\, body language\, overall confidence and messaging. Participants will receive individualized instruction based off of their goals and supplemented by the Toastmasters Speech Craft curriculum.   \nParticipants who complete the seminar will be offered the opportunity to join HYP Toastmasters club at a discounted rate and would have earned credit for their first speech in the Toastmasters curriculum. \nInterested persons should email HYP Toastmasters at HYPToast@gmail.com\, with the completed application (click here). SUMMARY:How It's Built in the 'Burg: Amma Johnson
DESCRIPTION:The HYP’s “How It’s Built in the ‘Burg” series is a new program held every other month. The series is based on the popular NPR Podcast “How I Built This” about innovators\, entrepreneurs\, and idealists\, and the stories behind the companies they have built. With a host of our own\, HYP will pull in local entrepreneurs and business founders from the Central PA Area to share their triumphs\, failures\, serendipity\, and insight. Guests are invited to network prior to the event with a cash bar and appetizers. This will be a program that you do not\nwant to miss! \nFor our 3rd event\, we are featuring Amma Johnson\, Founder of AMMA JO\, a local fashion company at Strawberry Square. Back in 2014\, Johnson began her line of handbags with one design when she sold her first 20 handbags in a gift shop that was previously located at Hollywood Casino in East Hanover Twp. After the sale of the 20 handbags she used the profits to make 100 handbags which were sold to family and friends\, and at local expos. Since then Johnson has expanded into a lifestyle brand including clothing\, accessories and home decor. DESCRIPTION:RSVP FOR THE HIKE\nThe first HYP hike of 2018 will be at Clarence Schock Memorial Park at Governor Dick Environmental Center on Saturday\, June 30\, 2018. \nOur carpool group will meet at 10:00 AM in front of the parking garage at City Island\, will leave promptly at 10:30 AM\, arriving at the center at around 11:15 AM. Clarence Schock Memorial Park at Governor Dick is an 1105-acre stewardship forest and nature center nestled in the woods of Mt. Gretna\, Pa. The park has 15 miles of trails and features a 360-degree-view observation tower. We will hike a roughly 5-mile route to be determined by the group. \nPlease wear weather-appropriate clothing and suitable footwear. Packing some water and a light snack is also advised. Leashed dogs are welcome!
