DESCRIPTION:Outreach is looking for volunteers to assist with our Junior Sports initiative with kids from 1st-4th grade at Sylvan Heights Charter School. We will be meeting Mondays 5-6:30PM from October 2nd-November 20th. Our first 4 weeks we will be at Reservoir Park with our older kids\, with our last 4 weeks being at Sylvan Heights. \n  \nThe goal is to teach kids about health/wellness through sports and fitness as well as sportsmanship between peers. \n  \nIf interested please e-mail Outreach@hyp.org. DESCRIPTION:It’s October and that can mean only one thing…Halloween! And for HYP Book Club\, that means some scary\, creepy stories. This month’s reading is the classic Shirley Jackson book\, “The Haunting of Hill House.” And for added spookiness\, we’re also reading five stories from Edgar Allan Poe: “The Black Cat\,” “The Tell-Tale Heart\,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher.” To leave some mystery to it\, when you RSVP\, you’ll get the last two stories. They’re short enough that you’ll have time\, even if you’re on the late end. \nWe’ll meet at the Midtown Scholar at 2:00 in the lobby – look for folks carrying copies of the books; then we’ll find a table in the back room. SUMMARY:HYP Hike at King’s Gap Environmental Education Center
DESCRIPTION:The third HYP hike of 2017 will be at King’s Gap Environmental Education Center on Saturday October 21\, 2017.  Carpool group will meet at Noon in front of the parking garage at City Island\, will leave promptly at 12:30\, and arrive at the center at around 1:30.  The hike will cover roughly 6 miles of moderate trails\, with two scenic overlooks on the planned route.  Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and suitable footwear.  Packing some water and a light snack is also advised.  Leashed dogs are welcome! \n  \nKings Gap Environmental Education Center’s unique attractions are its mountainous terrain\, extensive forest\, and panoramic views\, which may be experienced while driving the winding road to the mansion area\, or while hiking the trails. The sweeping view of the Cumberland Valley from the Cameron-Masland Mansion is impressive at any time of the year.  Kings Gap consists of 2\,531 acres of forest on South Mountain\, with more than 18 miles of hiking trails\, a permanent orienteering course\, picnicking\, hunting\, and other recreational and educational opportunities.
