DESCRIPTION:Dust off your favorite holiday sweater\, and kick off the holiday season by drinking hot cocoa\, eating cookies\, and helping wrap gifts for those in need! Join HYP and the YWCA to jump-start the holiday season at the December New Member Social on December 15th from 5:00-8:00 pm. There will be a short introduction at 5:30 with gift wrapping to begin at 5:45pm. We will also be collecting new\, unused blankets and teddy bears to donate to children who will be spending their holidays at Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute. Due to COVID hospitals cannot accept gently used items\, so please be sure these items have original tags and a receipt taped to them. \nThere will be plenty of opportunities to mingle with new and current members of HYP\, and learn just what HYP is all about! DESCRIPTION:This is the last PA Food Bank Challenge of 2021. We will have an HYP team of 20 people max to go against the Junior League of Harrisburg’s team. Winning team will get to take home the PA Food Bank pottery bowl trophy until the end of next year when we announce the 2022 winning team. This challenge helps the PA Food Bank assemble their care packages that get sent out to those in need in our community. DESCRIPTION:*The registration fee for this event is $10*\n*This event is limited to HYP members only*\n\nOur PA Food Bank Challenge test in May was such a success we decided to continue our partnership with the PA Food Bank!\n\nNot only will we be helping assemble their care packages that get sent out to those in need in our community\, but the registration fees will all be donated to the PA Food Bank. HYP will hold a team of 20 members\, and we are working on getting another team created by another organization to go against.\n\nBoth teams will have an hour to pack as many of the PA Food Bank care packages as they can.\nWe will be having another challenge in November so if we fill up spots when you sign up we will be sure to give you first dibs for the November date.\n\nAfter the November challenge we will see who from the August challenge and November challenge packed the most boxes. DESCRIPTION:SIGN UP\nPacket Pick-Up: 7:30 AM\nKids Fun Run: 8:30 AM\n5 Mile Team-Relay Race Start: 9 AM\n5 Mile Timed Race Start: 9 AM \nJoin us for the 6th Annual HYP 5 Miler for 5 Charities! The 5 Miler will kick off on City Island and feature a safe and scenic course running along Riverfront Park (Capital Area Greenbelt) and ending back at City Island. In addition to the 5 Miler Race\, we are bringing back the Kids Fun Run! The Kids Fun Run will be a 1/4 mile and all registrations will be “day of.” There will be no entry fee\, but donations are welcome. \n \nNew this year to the HYP 5-Miler for 5 Charities is the Team Relay! Teams consist of three (3) people together and receive a single finish time. Each person will get a bib on the team – each person on the team will run their leg and pass the baton to their partner and the next person will start running. No matter how many people finish the race\, the time will be whoever crosses the finish line. We are not able to supply split times for each runner. Awards go to the first\, second\, and third-place teams. \n \n5 Charities include:\nHYP Outreach Initiatives\nDowntown Daily Bread\nLGBT Community Center of Central PA\nYoung Professionals of Color Greater Harrisburg\nRASE Project \n \nPre-registered participants will receive long sleeve shirts. Want to help fulfill someone’s dream of having their own home? \nJoin the Outreach Committee for another work site day volunteering time with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area. No specific skills or construction expertise needed. Materials and guidance will be provided by Habitat for Humanity and they will match you with a job based on your skillset day of. Before attending the event\, a volunteer form\, waiver\, and online volunteer safety course need to be completed. \nVolunteers will meet at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 800 Paxton St. at 8:15 am and carpool to the work site for the day. DESCRIPTION:REFRESH Harrisburg is the culminating event in which 4 teams of teen summer campers from The Salvation Army sell items at refreshment stands located around downtown Harrisburg to demonstrate their knowledge of entrepreneurship and charity. For four weeks prior to the event\, the campers learned about starting their own business\, budgeting\, marketing\, and creating their own business plans to put their refreshment stands in motion. Come visit each of the refreshment stands the day of the event to see their businesses in action and see their individual marketing strategies come to life.
