SUMMARY:White Rocks/Appalachian Trail HIKE!
DESCRIPTION:Let's go for a hike! This MODERATE hike will be about 6.5 miles long\, out and back style. It will begin on the Appalachian Trail\, initially passing through several flat farm fields and then up the mountain into the woods with about 650 feet of elevation gain. We will then turn onto the White Rocks trail which involves hiking through interesting large rock formations and optional rock scrambling on top of the ridge. \nContact Amy Bennetch via amyjbennetch1020@gmail.com with any questions and to RSVP. Your RSVP is strongly recommended so that you can be contacted in the event of any changes or cancelations. If you would like a pin of the exact meeting spot text Amy at 717-585-3312. Signing a waiver will be required. \nDue to COVID-19\, there will be no carpooling. Please bring a mask to wear at any point during the walk where social distancing would not be possible. Do not attend if you have any symptoms of COVID-19\, been in contact with\, or live with someone who has or is being tested for COVID-19. \nMeet in front of the Boiling Springs Iron Furnace located at 109 Bucher Hill Rd. Boiling Springs\, PA 17007 at 10am. We will begin the hike at 10:10am. Text Amy if running late or if you can’t find us. The closest parking is the Iron Furnance lot at the southeast end of Children’s Lake. If that is full there are numerous other parking options such as the Children’s Lake parking lot\, along Mountain Rd. by the Gristmill\, or in the unmarked lot next to the railroad tracks off Mountain Rd (next to Yellow Breeches Creek). \nRequired/recommended items: \n\nAt least 2 liters of water\nSnacks\nSunscreen\nBug spray\nWeather appropriate clothing\nHiking boots are ideal but durable sneakers would work

DESCRIPTION:May’s book is “The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett. It’s about a pair of identical black sisters in the south who run away at 16. One ends up coming back and raising a black daughter in the town she tried to escape; the other passes for white and conceals it from her white husband.\n\nA fixture on critics’ top 10 lists and awards lists\, “The Vanishing Half” is about more than race; it’s about identity\, family\, community\, and the influence of the past on one’s life.\n\nThe meeting is planned for outside\, so please plan appropriately\, including masks\, chairs\, water\, sunblock\, etc. We’ll be wearing masks and spreading out to accommodate social distancing.
