May’s book is “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. One of literature’s most well known and influential gothic novels. The book caused a scandal upon its release and nearly resulted in its author being prosecuted for violation of laws guarding public morality. The story follows young aristocrat, Dorian Gray, as he pursues every hedonistic pleasure that life has to offer. Shielded from the ill effects by a magical portrait which slowly erodes to show the moral disintegration of its subject. Give into temptation and join the HYP Book Club for our discussion.
