“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” In the spirit of the Halloween season, the HYP Book Club will be reading a collection of short stories from the master of cosmic horror, H. P. Lovecraft. The following stories will be discussed:
Dagon, Nyarlathotep, The Call of Cthulhu, The Color Out of Space, The Dunwich Horror, The Whisperer in Darkness, At the Mountains of Madness, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Dreams in the Witch House, and The Shadow Out of Time
These stories are all in the public domain and can easily be found for free here.
Content Warning: These stories were published between 1923 and 1936 and in some cases contain outdated and racist language. While these ideas are not the focus of the stories, we still wanted to make potential readers aware of their inclusion.
