In it, a couple takes what they expect to be a quiet vacation and break from New York City when they’re interrupted by an older black couple in a panic…with news of blackout that’s swept the area.

There’s now no TV, internet, or cell phone. What’s actually happening back home? Can they trust each other? Are they isolated or safe? Nominated for the National Book Award for Fiction, and on a number of critics’ best lists, it’s an exploration of parenting, race, and class.
