Harrisburg Internship Connection Program Harrisburg Young Professionals pairs a small group of local interns with experienced mentors in the Harrisburg Area during the summer. Our program is designed to showcase the city’s exciting renaissance through social activities, professional development seminars, and networking opportunities.
What is Harrisburg Young Professionals?
Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) is a group of young, active, civic-minded professionals who have a clear vision of Harrisburg’s future as a great place to live, work and play. We are part of a movement that is breathing new life into urban areas and lessening the negative impact of suburban sprawl. We also work to prevent the migration of educated young people to larger cities (often referred to as “brain drain”) and to encourage those who have left to return to the Central Pennsylvania region.
What do we do?
HYP serves as a catalyst in making Harrisburg a better place to live, work and play, while developing and retaining future leaders. Our community of nearly 2,000 young, civically-minded members coordinates innovative programming to showcase the city’s finest recreational, social and professional opportunities, including:
- New Member Socials
- 2nd Wednesday Networking
- CEO Roundtables
- Italian Lake Concert Series
How the Program Works
Interns are placed in a small group with an experienced HYP member at a kickoff event. Additionally, HYP members will be available to provide one on one opportunities to discuss individual goals and career mapping. The mentoring relationship focuses on discovering Harrisburg, growing professionally, and is driven by the individuals within the group. The groups determine the cadence of their connections but are highly encouraged to attend the five developmental activities designed for the entire group and spread throughout the summer.
What is expected of participants?
Program participants will regularly meet with group members and mentors throughout the summer. To fully immerse participants in the HYP experience, each group will participate in the planning and implementation of one of HYP’s marquee events, as decided by the group. Most importantly, it is expected that all participants maintain a trustworthy, reliable, and professional relationship with each other.
Additionally, interns should be Employed with a business, nonprofit or government agency in or around Harrisburg and currently enrolled with an institution of higher-education or graduated within 3 months of the program start.
