HARRISBURG, Pa. (4/24/2023) – Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) celebrated Earth Day by organizing their 23rd Forster St Cleanup in Harrisburg. More than 60 volunteers helped revitalize the areas from 2nd to 6th Street. One dozen rose bushes and over 100 pansies were planted, hedges were trimmed, and trash and debris were removed.

HYP was happy to rework this Harrisburg area with heavy foot and vehicle traffic. Beyond the committee’s beautification mission, the community’s safety remains a priority. The group removed several bushes that were blocking visibility at intersections along Forster St.

HYP Executive Director said, “Because of groups like Friends of Midtown, Midtown Action Council, Parks and Facilities, the Harrisburg Fire Bureau and many more coming together, we were able to give back over 200 hours of volunteer labor to beautify this main entrance into the city.”

Along with this marquee event, HYP’s City Living committee will continue its cleanup efforts around the city.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (3/30/23) – On March 29, 2023, The YWCA of Greater Harrisburg hosted its 34th Annual Tribute to Women of Excellence at the Hershey Lodge to honor outstanding women in professional and executive positions for contributions to their community. Jade Honey, 2022 HYP President, introduced Meghan Bachmore for her award.

“Meghan embodies the characteristics of a true servant leader, something many don’t achieve under forty, let alone thirty,” Honey said.

The distinctive title of “Woman of Excellence” is bestowed on women who are active in the community as mentors, role models, and volunteers, serve on boards or committees of various nonprofit organizations, demonstrate integrity, strength of character and leadership, raise and donate money to important causes, and embrace the mission and vision of the YWCA. The Emerging Leader Award recognizes the efforts of women under the age of 30 on behalf of the community, particularly with regard to mentoring younger girls. 

Meghan reflected on her time as Executive Director of HYP.

“Over the last year, I have met some of the strongest leaders our community has to offer, who have spent generous amounts of time ensuring I felt assured, confident, and capable in my role as Executive Director. “

Proceeds from the event go towards supporting the YWCA’s mission. The YWCA Greater Harrisburg is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (December 12, 2022) – Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) is excited to
announce their 2023 Executive slate and welcome new members to their Board of Directors!

HYP’s Leadership consists of committee co chairs and a board of directors, including a five person
executive team working alongside their Executive Director. With much excitement, HYP elected Olivia
Edwards Rindfuss as President for 2023. Olivia is currently a Senior Associate at Triad Strategies in
downtown Harrisburg. She has been a member of HYP since 2017 and was co Vice President last year.

Jade K. Honey, MPA, current HYP president, says “Olivia exudes the heart of HYP and has been a vital
member of this year’s Executive team. I’ve been blessed to not only have her by my side as Vice
President but have grown a life-long friendship, which is common in our HYP family.”

Along with Olivia Edwards Rindfuss, the following Executive Board Members will begin their terms on
January 1, 2023:

Olivia is excited for this new chapter saying, “It’s an honor to be selected by our board to serve as
President in 2023; HYP’s 25th Anniversary year. My journey with HYP began as a new resident from
Washington, D.C., seeking a way to give back and learn of Harrisburg’s unique history. I look forward to
reflecting on and celebrating these past 25 years of service, while endeavoring to envision another 25
years of making Harrisburg a better place to live, work, and play.”

HARRISBURG, Pa. (12/8/22) – On Wednesday, November 9th Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) celebrated its 4th annual 20 in Their 20s award night at the Hilton Harrisburg honoring 20 rising professionals in Central PA. Honorees were selected in August 2022 from over 50 submissions and were featured in the October issue of TheBurg. These young leaders from industry, culture, and civic life are making a meaningful impact in their communities and workplaces:

In addition to celebrating 20 of Harrisburg’s rising “doers” at the event, HYP also announced its 2023 Executive Board and incoming President, Olivia Edwards Rindfuss. Olivia works as a Senior Associate at Triad Strategies and served as HYP’s vice president in 2022.

All proceeds from the 20 In Their 20’s awards ceremony support HYP annual programming. HARRISBURG, Pa. (11/21/2022) –  This year saw the return of Harrisburg Young Professionals’ (HYP) iconic event: Home Tour. Split into a two part mini-series, attendees were able to explore Italian Lake on June 26th and Shipoke on September 17th. On both dates, guests were able to experience the very best of city living and the wonderful historical elements of each neighborhood!

The community at Italian Lake features a manmade lake that was part of Harrisburg’s City Beautiful Moment in 1901. Since 2012, HYP has hosted its Italian Lake Summer Concert Series featuring artists in the park, providing a space for friends and family to enjoy summer nights of local sounds. 

Shipoke, Harrisburg’s small but mighty neighborhood, showcases beautiful victorian style homes as well as carpenter gothic – the infamous “Pancake Row ” along Conoy street are houses built by Jacob Pancake. Fifty years after Hurricane Agnes, this neighborhood continues to thrive with their own Flea, Wine Wednesdays, access to Riverfront Park, picnics, neighborhood cleanups, and a positive community feeling that highlight’s Shipoke’s overall charm.

President Jade Honey states, “Home Tour is a foundational event supporting our mission at HYP. Not only do we showcase the very best of living in the city, but we also provide assistance to first time homebuyers with the proceeds of this event.” City Living Co-Chair Alyssa Massaro states, “Home Tour is a wonderful opportunity for members of our community to explore their own backyards! Each home contained its own charm, character and history that proves how beautiful and unique our city really is. It is an honor to help facilitate this iconic event and be a part of HYP!” 

Sponsored by Members 1st Federal Credit Union, Home Tour raises funds to support our Home in the City Program. This grant program was created as a joint venture between HYP, Harrisburg 2020, and the Harrisburg Chamber & CREDC. Proceeds from the event, as well as donations from local business leaders, provides $1,000 grants to first time home buyers in the city of Harrisburg. To date, we have granted $80,000 to HYP Members throughout the City of Harrisburg. 

This year HYP was able to award 6 grants to support HYP members in Shipoke, Midtown, and Italian Lake neighborhoods. HYP hopes to continue this neighborhood showcase in order to highlight the “Live” part of our mission – proving that Harrisburg is a great place to live whether you’re early in your professional career or ready to start a family.
