Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP), is pleased to announce the inaugural “Run for the Roses” Kentucky Derby style event in partnership with The Hill Society. The event will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the prominent, historic city venue, Historic King Mansion.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to join forces with The Hill Society & Historic King Mansion for a wonderful day of celebration and fun in Harrisburg,” says Renee Custer, HYP President. “Together, we represent three organizations that are dedicated to Harrisburg, and through this initiative we look forward to growing the Home in the City Program while continuing our mission to make Harrisburg a better place to live, work, and play.”
In 2020, HYP and The Hill Society are coming together for an exciting partnership to provide the Harrisburg region with a day to remember. This new event aims to raise funds for HYP’s Home in the City grant program, which provides $1,000 grants to HYP members purchasing homes in the City of Harrisburg. Through this partnership, the organizations hope to provide even more young professionals with an opportunity to purchase a home within the city limits of Harrisburg. With the beautiful river-front location of King’s Mansion, the event is sure to be a fun evening of celebration. More details will be released at HYP’s Annual Meeting on February 24th at 5:30PM at the Whitaker Center for Science & the Arts. All guests are encouraged to attend the HYP Annual Meeting to learn more and celebrate the 2019 accomplishments of HYP and the Harrisburg community.
“We are very excited to be a part of this inaugural event benefiting HYPs Home in the City initiative,” says Joe Massaro, GM of the Hilton Harrisburg, home of The Hill Society. “Our members are committed to a strong Harrisburg economy and supporting HYPs work in this way is a natural fit.”
Since its inception, HYP has worked to increase the awareness of city living among young professionals and provide access to the resources needed for its membership to do so. Through the HYP Home in the City Program, HYP has provided $75,000 to young professionals purchasing a home in the city of Harrisburg, helping 75 people call Harrisburg home.

In response to the news of former Mayor Reed’s passing, Harrisburg Young Professionals has released the following statements from its leadership and founding members:
Renée Custer, HYP President: “During my time as Executive Director of HYP, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Mayor Reed. Even when he no longer held the office of Mayor of Harrisburg, his commitment to the City and the mission of HYP was profound. We were fortunate to have his guidance and leadership in all aspects of the work of HYP, and we honor his memory in all we continue to do in our City.”
David La Torre, former HYP president: “In the early 2000s, HYP was undergoing a transition and struggling for members. Mayor Reed wouldn’t give up on us. He was our biggest benefactor because he understood one of the keys to Harrisburg’s revitalization was attracting young professionals — and we could throw a good party. The Harrisburg Young Professionals don’t exist without him — just like Harrisburg University, Harrisburg Hilton & Towers, and the Harrisburg Senators. Steve Reed was cool, and he was our mayor. Thank you, Mr. Mayor. For everything.”
Greg Rothman, founding HYP member: “From our first meeting with Mayor Reed he was fully committed, always supportive and offered the full force of his Administration to help HYP. Other than John Harris, no single person has ever or could ever do as much as he did for our city. His legacy lives on not just in buildings, schools and sports teams, but in the spirit of the next generations he inspired to civic and community pride and service.”
Eric Morrison, founding HYP member: “Mayor Reed embraced HYP from the outset. He strongly believed in our “brain gain” initiative and mission to make the city of Harrisburg a better place to live, work and play. He was HYP’s biggest champion. His unwavering support of our fledgling organization gave HYP the credibility it desperately needed to become a powerful force of positive and impactful change in our community. HYP’s amazing success is a clear testament to Mayor Reed’s tireless and profound leadership of the City of Harrisburg.”

The 46th edition of Historic Harrisburg Association’s iconic Candlelight House Tour will be presented on Sunday, December 8. Open for touring will be an intriguing array of private residences, architectural landmarks, and stunning contemporary living spaces. Once again, the tour properties will exhibit the broad array of urban lifestyle and living choices currently available to residents and potential residents of Harrisburg.

Day-of-tour Tickets will be $25 each and will be available beginning at 12 Noon at the Historic Harrisburg Resource Center and at the John Harris- Simon Cameron Mansion, 219, S. Front Street.
Tourgoers will see everything from three-story Colonial-revival mansions to Victorian and Queen Anne townhouses and twins, to modern loft apartments in the former Moose Lodge on Third Street in Midtown and the old Fox Hotel in South Harrisburg. Navigation will be easy, with convenient walking, driving and parking options.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (October 30, 2019) – The local young professional organization, Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP), is pleased to announce their new full-time Sports and Fitness Coordinator, Aaron Murray.
“I’m looking forward to working with everyone within HYP to not only increase our impact in our sports and fitness programs but also contribute to the many other ways HYP makes Harrisburg a better place to live, work, and play. I’m excited about the opportunity to work for such a great organization with so many wonderful people,” says Murray.
Aaron Murray grew up in Middletown PA, graduated and then went to NC State where he studied Sports Management. After college, he worked for a few years with Soccer Shots, a youth soccer franchise, where he managed programs in Raleigh, NC, and most recently in the Harrisburg and York area.
“We’re thrilled for AJ to join our team and for him to continue growing our incredible sports leagues which serve thousands of players each year while fueling much of our civic and community programming in Harrisburg,” said Adam Porter, HYP 2019 President.
