HARRISBURG, Pa. (11/21/2022) – This year saw the return of Harrisburg Young Professionals’ (HYP) iconic event: Home Tour. Split into a two part mini-series, attendees were able to explore Italian Lake on June 26th and Shipoke on September 17th. On both dates, guests were able to experience the very best of city living and the wonderful historical elements of each neighborhood!
The community at Italian Lake features a manmade lake that was part of Harrisburg’s City Beautiful Moment in 1901. Since 2012, HYP has hosted its Italian Lake Summer Concert Series featuring artists in the park, providing a space for friends and family to enjoy summer nights of local sounds.
Shipoke, Harrisburg’s small but mighty neighborhood, showcases beautiful victorian style homes as well as carpenter gothic – the infamous “Pancake Row ” along Conoy street are houses built by Jacob Pancake. Fifty years after Hurricane Agnes, this neighborhood continues to thrive with their own Flea, Wine Wednesdays, access to Riverfront Park, picnics, neighborhood cleanups, and a positive community feeling that highlight’s Shipoke’s overall charm.
President Jade Honey states, “Home Tour is a foundational event supporting our mission at HYP. Not only do we showcase the very best of living in the city, but we also provide assistance to first time homebuyers with the proceeds of this event.” City Living Co-Chair Alyssa Massaro states, “Home Tour is a wonderful opportunity for members of our community to explore their own backyards! Each home contained its own charm, character and history that proves how beautiful and unique our city really is. It is an honor to help facilitate this iconic event and be a part of HYP!”
Sponsored by Members 1st Federal Credit Union, Home Tour raises funds to support our Home in the City Program. This grant program was created as a joint venture between HYP, Harrisburg 2020, and the Harrisburg Chamber & CREDC. Proceeds from the event, as well as donations from local business leaders, provides $1,000 grants to first time home buyers in the city of Harrisburg. To date, we have granted $80,000 to HYP Members throughout the City of Harrisburg.
This year HYP was able to award 6 grants to support HYP members in Shipoke, Midtown, and Italian Lake neighborhoods. HYP hopes to continue this neighborhood showcase in order to highlight the “Live” part of our mission – proving that Harrisburg is a great place to live whether you’re early in your professional career or ready to start a family.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (09/02/2022) – On Friday, August 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm, golfers from the capital region gathered at the award winning Dauphin Highlands Golf Course for the 11th Annual Golf Scramble presented by Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP).
From a challenging par 3 of 172 yards to a wide-open par 5 of 541-yards, Dauphin Highlands located in Harrisburg, provides the opportunity for players to experience every facet of the intricate game of golf. Their signature hole, the 17th, is a par 3 of breathtaking natural beauty requiring each player to tee off over a natural ravine onto a gently sloping green.
Each year, HYP hosts this outing as a way to bring businesses and members together. The scramble included a round of golf, a golf cart, lunch, dinner, and an opportunity to win prizes. This year’s sold out event had 32 teams – 128 golfers total! Our winners this year included First Place: Stewart-Amos Steel Inc. Team – players Joe Kopchick, Garret Ofenloch, Ryan Torresin and Ross Higgins, Second Place: Foursome of Joe Tertel, Paul Klass, Jack McEwen and Sterling Dunlap, and Third Place: Fred Beans Automotive Group Team – players included Tyler Buehler, Dave Hatalia, Darren Burton, and Brian Faley.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (June 30, 2022) – Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) is excited to open nominations for their 4th Annual 20 In Their 20s class!
Nominations will be open from July 1, 2022, to August 8, 2022.
Any member of the public can submit a nomination, but nominees must meet the following requirements:
- Between the ages of 20-29 before December 31, 2022
- Lives or works within Dauphin, Cumberland, or Perry Counties in Pennsylvania
- Actively contributes to making a difference within their community or workplace

HYP will host its 20 in their 20s awards ceremony, sponsored by Members 1st Credit Union, on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Hilton Harrisburg to celebrate 20 rising young professionals who are making a significant impact in their communities and workplaces. HYP believes in giving back to your community and supports active minded professionals who contribute to making Central PA a better place to live, work and play.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (4/29/2022) – On Saturday, April 23rd, Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) partnered with Tri County Community and other organizations in the community as part of the Great Harrisburg Litter Clean Up.
The day after earth day, 300 volunteers removed 19,560 lbs. of litter and debris from Harrisburg City Streets. On Forster Street, around 40 volunteers helped revitalize the areas from 2nd to 6th Street. Around 30+ rose bushes were planted, hedges were trimmed and trash / debris was removed.
After a 2 year break due to COVID-19 restrictions, HYP was happy to rework this area of Harrisburg that carries heavy foot and vehicle traffic. Beyond our committee mission of beautification, our community’s safety continues to be our priority.
Along with this marquee event, our City Beautification committee will continue its cleanup efforts around the city and utilize our Atlas Street community garden. New this year will be a cooking demo showcasing farmers associated with the Broad Street Market.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (4/1//2022) – Today, Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) announced that two iconic events are back for 2022: Forster Street Cleanup and Home Tour!
Both events were greatly affected by COVID-19 restrictions and limitations and were canceled in 2020 and 2021. Due to the tremendous outpouring of requests from members and non members alike, HYP has made the shift to bring back signature events that fully support the city of Harrisburg. HYP is an organization that prides itself on events and activities that resonate with our membership and speak to the mission of our organization, while providing financial benefit to our programs and services.
Forster Street Cleanup will be in partnership with Tri County Community Action as part of the Great Harrisburg Litter Clean Up on Saturday, April 23, 2022. We are excited to continue to beautify and be proud of the city in which we live, work and play.
Home Tour will be broken up into 2 mini series, with our first tour in Italian Lake on June 18th and second tour in Shipoke on September 17th. Both series will feature homes, local food and drink, businesses and paired with a block party to benefit our Home in the City Program. Our Home in the City Program assists new Harrisburg homebuyers with closing costs.
Directly related to this pivot comes the decision to cancel the long awaited Run for the Roses. Anyone who has registered and paid for a ticket to attend Run for the Roses, will be refunded. HYP encourages those who planned to attend our event to support and attend our 2022 Home Tour mini-series instead.
We’re excited to focus on the events that result in positive outcomes in the city of Harrisburg and realign us with who we are as an organization.
