HYP Employer Assisted Housing Program a Major Success

Harrisburg, PA, June 3, 2010 - Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) announces the success of the HYP Employer Assisted Housing Program.

$14,000 in grants were awarded toward the purchase of a primary residence in the City of Harrisburg. All grants were made to individual home-buyers on a first-come, first-serve basis in the amount of $1,000. The program was announced on February 24, 2010 and all funds were exhausted by April 2, 2010.

Special thanks to our speakers Dr. Eric Darr, Dan Deitchman and Mayor Linda Thompson, and our sponsors Troegs Brewing Co., Bricco Restaurant, and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. At our Annual Meeting this year, we announced the HYP Employer Assisted Housing Program. The program will provide approved applicants with $1,000 toward their closing costs on any home purchased within city limits.

This time of year reminds me of a major milestone - the purchase of my first home.

It was just a year ago that I moved into the old uptown section of Harrisburg. Since then, there have been countless trips to hardware stores and furniture outlets and more weekend projects than I care to remember.

HYP leaders Nicole Borda, 2009 President, and Amy Richards, 2010 Secretary-elect, were honored along with 38 of their peers at the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal's annual list of forty under 40. In addition, to our current leadership, former board members Andy Johnson and Stacia Zewe were honored.
