Every two seconds, someone needs blood, and an adequate blood supply is crucial to their survival. Just one pint of your blood can save as many as four lives. The demand for blood continues to increase, yet only 5% of the population donates. To help support the community's needs, HYP is sponsoring a blood drive on Monday, 10/26. The "Blood Mobile" will be parked in front of the Winter Group at 234 N. 3rd St. Giving blood is a safe and easy process which takes approximately 45 minutes. Generally, anyone age 16 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good health, can donate blood. If you have given recently, it must have been before 8/31. Appointments will be every 15 minutes between 5:30 and 7:30 and must be made. Please email Colleen Smith at outreach@hyp.org to sign-up for an appointment. All donors will be entered into a drawing for a free entrée from Outback Steakhouse.
The flag football team with the most donors will win a $100 gift certificate to the league's sponsor, Rookie's Sports Bar & Grill. The competition will run 10/26-11/13. Donors are encouraged to give during HYP's sponsored date on 10/26. However, donors can also give at the Blood Bank's city location (223 Walnut Street; M: 11-3:15; T-F 8-4:15; 1-800-771-0059). Make sure to give HYP's Donor Group Number (0946) and E-mail Colleen Smith at outreach@hyp.org so that your team gets credit. Donors may have their donation count towards a specific football team even if they do not participate in the sports league. In the event of a tie, the team with the greatest amount of actual team members donating will win. A further tie will be determined by pulling a tied team name from a hat. The winning team will be announced at the final playoff game!
