The Outreach Committee is committed to transforming Harrisburg by developing and supporting initiatives in the areas of education, literacy, hunger relief, housing, healthcare and economic development. The Outreach Committee offers you an opportunity to demonstrate in a very tangible way your concern for our community.
Committee members and volunteers seek to achieve this mission through:
- Reading Program: We are looking for volunteers to read to students in the Harrisburg Elementary schools for 1 hour per month. This effort will be tied with a book drive to enhance the library resources within those schools. Each volunteer reader is asked to provide the age appropriate book they will be reading that day. Each of the books provided will be donated to the school. Our goal is to establish a library of books and educational resources for these students.
- Lunch, Learn, and Lead Program: This mentoring program is currently serving two different schools. First, we will be continuing our commitment to Camp Curtain Elementary School and meeting with their middle school students. Second, we will begin a new relationship with Sci-Tech High during their Community Partnership Day, mentoring the sophomore class monthly about student/life issues including sexuality, bullying, teasing, career exploration, obesity, and self esteem.
- Job Shadow Day: This event will be in collaboration with the Urban League-The New Movement and Big Brothers Big Sisters. This event will allow students to shadow local business leaders and get a taste of the working world, as well as specific careers they may wish to explore.
- Monthly Volunteer Opportunities: These events could include: Habitat for Humanity, Rescue Mission, Bowl for kid's sake, Toys 4 Tots, Lymphoma & Leukemia Society, YWCA, etc.

The Outreach Committee meets each month to discuss current events and to plan future events. Join us on the second Monday of every month at 5:30pm at the Crowne Plaza Lounge.
