President's Pen

The President's Pen - Issue #1                                                                  January 25th, 2010

Returning to a HYP tradition of old, I will be providing a bimonthly President's Pen. This letter will serve as an informative update on the state of the organization and our great city.

I'd like to draw your attention to a significant addition to our calendar this year; HYP will be hosting the ImPAct conference this year on the weekend of September 11. ImPAct is a statewide event for young professionals where you can hear from well-known expert speakers, network with other professionals throughout the state, and participate in informative seminars. The ImPAct conference will give us the opportunity to spotlight the many tourist attractions, parks, restaurants, museums, shops and more that make Harrisburg one of the best places to live in the nation!

Another significant HYP event - our Annual Meeting and awards ceremony will be held February 24 at Harrisburg University, with special keynote speaker Mayor Linda Thompson. As always, the Annual Meeting is a free event and is open to the public. We look forward to reflecting on the accomplishments of the past year, sharing our vision for the future, and introducing the new HYP administration.

Thank you to 2009 President Nicole Borda and the rest of the administration for all of your hard work and dedication throughout the year. Last year, HYP achieved several milestones. Our membership numbers passed the 700-member mark, the HYP Sports League grew exponentially. Every sport saw an increase in players, with kickball topping the charts at a staggering 470 players. Our city beautification committee saw an influx of new volunteers, including a professional landscaping company, Classic Landscaping. With the help of all our volunteers HYP was able to collect 20 tons of trash from our city lots and streets throughout the year. Our outreach committee also saw an increase in volunteers. We held twenty successful outreach events that helped our citizens in need. After all of this, and we still had momentum to end the year strong with a toy drive for the holidays. HYP members donated over 200 toys, and we collected $750 dollars in donations at our holiday party.

Now in its 11th year, HYP enters a new decade with a new administration and a new set of goals. With your help, I know we can reach and surpass all of our goals.

Sincerely,
