The President's Pen
Put your parking space holders away, spring is finally here and Harrisburg has thawed. Thank you to everyone who attended the Annual Meeting. Special thanks to our speakers Dr. Eric Darr, Dan Deitchman and Mayor Thompson, and our sponsors Troegs Brewing Co., Bricco Restaurant, and Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. At our Annual Meeting this year, we announced the HYP Employer Assisted Housing Program. The program will provide approved applicants with $1000 toward their closing costs on any home purchased within city limits. This program was created in partnership with the Harrisburg 2020 committee and from investments by city based employers. Along with the HYP program the city announced a $5000 discount on city owned homes. In addition, Dauphin County has a loan program where first-time homebuyers can receive up to $3000 toward the purchase of a home. Loan repayment is due upon sale of the home. With all of these great programs and the federal homebuyer program, there has never been a better time to purchase a home in the city of Harrisburg. For more information on the HYP Employer Assisted Housing program or links to the other programs, go to hyp.org/membership/housing.
HYP honored Penn National Insurance with the Business of the Year award, at our Annual Meeting. Penn National Insurance serves as a beacon for downtown Harrisburg, and they are an excellent example of success in Harrisburg.
Speaker Dan Deitchman of Riverview Manor showed us how investing in Harrisburg can be a successful venture. Riverview Manor also won the HYP Project of the Year award. The meticulously renovated property is now the new home to over 50 homebuyers. If you are looking for a way to take advantage of the previously mentioned homebuyer programs, there are a few units left in this beautiful property. For more information please visit www.harrisburgriverview.com.
Another great example of investment in Harrisburg are the Lofts at 909. I recently had a chance to tour these new luxury apartments and they are spectacular. Even if you are not in the market, I encourage you to check these places out at www.loftsat909.com.
The recent growth of HYP has been phenomenal. We continue to have excellent attendance at our events, as anyone who attended the Annual Meeting or our packed social at Stocks on 2nd can attest. If you are looking for something fun to do or if you'd like to expand your professional contact list, now more than ever is a great time to engage in HYP. To get more involved in HYP, please consider joining one of our committees. Visit our committee page on hyp.org for more information. If you have thoughts or ideas about HYP please email at jmarks@hyp.org
Thank you for your continued support of HYP and the city of Harrisburg.
Sincerely,

The President's Pen
Returning to a HYP tradition of old, I will be providing a bimonthly President's Pen. This letter will serve as an informative update on the state of the organization and our great city.
I'd like to draw your attention to a significant addition to our calendar this year; HYP will be hosting the ImPAct conference this year on the weekend of September 11. ImPAct is a statewide event for young professionals where you can hear from well-known expert speakers, network with other professionals throughout the state, and participate in informative seminars. The ImPAct conference will give us the opportunity to spotlight the many tourist attractions, parks, restaurants, museums, shops and more that make Harrisburg one of the best places to live in the nation!
Another significant HYP event - our Annual Meeting and awards ceremony will be held February 24 at Harrisburg University, with special keynote speaker Mayor Linda Thompson. As always, the Annual Meeting is a free event and is open to the public. We look forward to reflecting on the accomplishments of the past year, sharing our vision for the future, and introducing the new HYP administration.
Thank you to 2009 President Nicole Borda and the rest of the administration for all of your hard work and dedication throughout the year. Last year, HYP achieved several milestones. Our membership numbers passed the 700-member mark, the HYP Sports League grew exponentially. Every sport saw an increase in players, with kickball topping the charts at a staggering 470 players. Our city beautification committee saw an influx of new volunteers, including a professional landscaping company, Classic Landscaping. With the help of all our volunteers HYP was able to collect 20 tons of trash from our city lots and streets throughout the year. Our outreach committee also saw an increase in volunteers. We held twenty successful outreach events that helped our citizens in need. After all of this, and we still had momentum to end the year strong with a toy drive for the holidays. HYP members donated over 200 toys, and we collected $750 dollars in donations at our holiday party.
Now in its 11th year, HYP enters a new decade with a new administration and a new set of goals. With your help, I know we can reach and surpass all of our goals.
Sincerely,
